In Bengaluru, BBMP officials have reported a significant decrease in sewage flow into the Koramangala stormwater drain, from 120 million litres per day to approximately 8 MLD, following the implementation of the K-100 Urban Waterway Project. Despite this claim, local residents and businesses along the drain have noted that the foul odor and presence of sewage in the water have not diminished. The K-100 project aims to revamp the 9.2-km stretch of the stormwater drain from KR Market to Bellandur Lake with a government allocation of Rs 175 crore. The project, overseen by BBMP's engineering division, is slated for completion by the end of 2024. BBMP officials have established a 5 MLD capacity sewage treatment plant near Kalasipalya to cleanse the sewage before releasing it back into the drain. Additionally, efforts are underway to prevent sewage from entering the Koramangala Rajakaluve, including the installation of concrete rings and plants for natural water purification. BWSSB is in the process of constructing another sewage treatment plant near Shantinagar, expected to be finished by the year's end. Various infrastructure enhancements, such as retaining walls, bridges, lighting, landscaping, and service roads with pipelines to divert rainwater, have been completed as part of the project. The BBMP continues to work on the development of service roads and sewage diversion measures to further improve the condition of the rajakaluve. The project was scheduled to be completed by 2023, but it missed multiple deadlines thereafter.
